Chrome Microwaves are more expensive, but not better
We analyzed eight microwave with grill whose price varies significantly: from 117 euros from EC-2817N Samsung for $ 300 Sharp R-74ST. The three microwave white and analog meter (Balay, Samsung and Hotpoint) are the cheapest, and the two metallic digital counter, the most expensive (Sharp and Sanyo). The best quality-price is the cheapest oven, Samsung, being the second best appreciated by users and provide greater functionality. If for aesthetic reasons the user searches for a chrome microwave, Sharp, the most expensive, is the best value obtained.
The radiation leak is between ten eighty those permitted under
A microwave oven emits high frequency electromagnetic waves to heat water and cook food from the inside, so the product is baked instead of roasted (never more than a hundred degrees, the boiling point of water). This is the reason also that the interior of the food is hotter than its surface and that this kind of furnace do not raise the temperature of empty containers: its role is limited to heating and defrosting food. Microwaves with grill, in addition to emitting high frequency waves, incorporate two quartz rods that provide direct heat to brown and grill.
Three regular users rated each aspect of the oven for one to five points. The average ratings exceeded all three points in the eight cases, and highlighted LG and Sharp with 3.6 points for its manual and ergonomics. LG was the best value in external appearance (4.7), lighting (4) and visibility (4). Samsung was the worst rated globally (3.2 points), while highlighting its implementation (3.7) and clarity and usefulness of the command and control (4.7), but failed in lighting and maintenance and cleaning ( 2 points), stability, size and visibility (3).
Actual Test
To test each of them cooked in microwave lasagna, cannelloni and pizza and bread and spinach thawed. Samsung won the best score (4.6 points of a possible 5) and the worst was LG, but also received a good score (3.3 points) as a positive note despite the thawing of the pan (4 points) cooked lasagna and cannelloni (5 points), got poor ratings in temperature, and consistency and texture of the thawed spinach (2 points).
The size of a microwave should be comprehensive inside and small on the outside. Panasonic was the smaller and lighter (458 x 299 x 315 cm and 10.5 kilos) and the lowest internal capacity (17.4 liters). Fagor proved to be the heaviest and largest (541x316x410 cm and 19.2 kilos), but its internal cavity was only the second largest (23.5 liters). In all cases, the actual capacity was lower than indicated (Fagor does not report this data), with differences that reached the 5.5 liters of defect from Samsung. Panasonic incorporated the longer cable, (145 centimeters), while the shortest was that of Whirlpool, with 91 inches.
LG, Hotpoint, Sanyo, Sharp, Panasonic and Fagor offers a maximum power of 900 watts, the Samsung is 850 Watt and Whirlpool is the least potent with 750 watts. With regard to actual consumption, Panasonic, one of the most powerful, was the lowest power microwave (1,155 watts) and combined (1,710 watts), while Whirlpool was he in grill lower power (750 watts). The more electricity than needed were Sanyo microwave (1,455 watts), LG in the grill (1,240 watts) and in combined use Fagor (2,566 watts).
Systems for measuring time
The five furnaces timer is digital, only more expensive and supposedly more accurate (LG, Whirlpool, Sanyo, Sharp and Panasonic). In the other three (Hotpoint, Samsung and Hotpoint) is analog. Whirlpool timer is best adjusts cooking times (five seconds) while the worst is Balay (graduates every thirty seconds). The most accurate one analog, Samsung (deviates only five hundredths per minute) and the worst time is measured Fagor (each minute longer than two seconds).
Programming timers maximum of one hour analog, and digital range from 90 minutes (LG, Whirlpool, Sanyo) and 100 minutes (Panasonic, Sharp). The presets simplify the use of the oven, because the power and adjust the cooking time depending on food and weight. Only five microwave digital timer offered this feature.
The number of positions of the regulator to the three functions of these ovens (microwave, defrost and grill) should be comprehensive so that the power is more precise cooking. The total number varies between twelve positions and seven Whirlpool Panasonic.
The eight ovens have a rotating plate, audible at the end of the program and stopped at the moment when the door opened. LG, Whirlpool, Sanyo and Panasonic included a safety lock that prevents accidental operation of the apparatus. In all cases we were able to alter up the cooking time scheduled, but the power could not be changed in operation in LG, Sanyo and Sharp.
The protection against the heat inside was analyzed overheating at full power from grill and microwave a potato and sugar ethanol, (circumstances that can cause food to burn). In no furnace heat shield was activated under these extreme conditions, and eight remained in operation. Samsung and Panasonic in even burned the plastic part inside the door. Consumer information, either
Labeling and marking of permanent teams was understandable and discernible. In no sample was accessible live parts with the finger, and both the leakage current test as the dielectric strength (tests that measure the electrical functioning of the apparatus) were overtaken by all the furnaces. The only one that failed the standard was Whirlpool, since when was heated under extreme conditions there was smoke in a cable insulation. Panasonic was activated in protection against a malfunction, in LG, Hotpoint, Samsung, Sharp and Fagor did not act any protection but not excessive levels of temperature reached, and sparks came Sanyo blackened insulation of a cable.
Testing for resistance to heat and fire, heating and stability and mechanical hazards yield results correct in every microwave. Were measured five inches from leakage of waves, which in all cases are between ten and fifty times lower than the dictates of the rule.
The only furnace in their functioning may affect the performance of other appliances is Panasonic, which can confuse the electrical behavior of a refrigerator thermostat or interrupt a wash cycle of an electronic machine. The other site microwave beat these tests for electromagnetic compatibility.
Furthermore, the eight approved in relation to information and consumer protection. In all cases provide instructions for installation, use and maintenance and incorporate a cookbook. Whirlpool and Hotpoint are the ones that simply give the guarantee of six months forcing the Spanish rule while the rest was offered a year.
Usage Tips
Also carefully read the instructions on each team, should follow a set of guidelines to ensure proper use of the microwave:
* Do not run the microwave when it is empty.
* Do not insert metal items or earthenware with gold or silver paint.
* Click and open the sealed food (eggs, sausage ...) before cooking
* If using plastic disposable containers, paper or other combustible materials should be monitored constantly to avoid oven ignite
* Remove the content of bottles and jars of food to get them out of the oven and check temperature to avoid burns,
* After boiling liquids, you must open the door of the microwave and waiting a few seconds before picking up the container. Otherwise, when contacting air and liquid can produce a spontaneous boiling causing serious burns.
Watch and compare. Choose the best microwave.
It is impossible to imagine a kitchen without a microwave current. What about ten or fifteen years was a completely new, and even luxury has become an essential appliance in any home and is almost impossible to see a kitchen that does not have this oven so useful.
The choice. The first thing to do when choosing a microwave is to ask for the actual use will you give him. You may only go to use for defrosting and heating, or can you go to cook in it all kinds of meals and even elaborate pastries. So if you buy one you approach with or without the grill, a more complete or easier.
